New Sony Walkman Screens Out iPod Shuffle

Sony NE-E010 MP3 Player

We just couldn’t resist showing you this. Sony have managed to squeeze a tiny OLED screen onto their NW-E010 Series of MP3 Walkmans. For a device not much bigger than a cigarette, it’s a great achievement. By doing so, they have also managed to get one up on Apple because the new iPod Shuffle doesn’t have a screen. It connects using USB and has clips so that you can attach it to your clothes or whatever you feel like clipping it to. With 30 hours of battery life it also eclipses the shuffle in that department too. It is available in 1Gb or 2Gb flavours and is also available in pink (I didn’t tell you that though). Rumour has it that Advanced MP3 Players have them in stock now.

ViewSonic PJ258D - iPod Projector

ViewSonic PJ258D - iPod Projector

Have you ever thought to yourself, “this iPod is brilliant, just look, I can watch movies whenever I want and carry them around with me and everything!” And then have you thought at different times, “I wish I didn’t have to watch movies on such a small screen while I’m at home.”

Well fear not, those thoughts can now be banished from your head forever because the World’s first iPod projector is here. ViewSonic’s PJ258D will ease the strain on your peepers by projecting your favourite stored iPod movie onto the nearest wall. It will also keep your iPod charged up from it’s nice little slot in the top of the unit meaning there is no danger of your movie cutting out prematurely because you forgot to charge your pocket marvel.

The price of this little wonder is just short of $1000 at Amazon and you should be able to pick one up for about £695 in the UK at Misco. For that money you don’t just get the ability to project movies from your iPod though, as you can also hook up a games console or DVD player via S-Video and VGA inputs, so it’s also quite versatile.

PS3 Takes the Sales Record

Apparently the launch of the Sony PS3 has been the most successful games console launch in history. It seems that stories talking about the PS3 selling slowly were inaccurate and were probably based on the fact that most stores had surplus stock. It turns out that this was probably due more to effective stocking strategy rather than lack of sales.

Chart-Track has revealed that an estimated 165,000 Sony PS3 consoles were sold in the two days following its launch on 23rd March. That makes it the fastest selling console ever. The Nintendo Wii managed 105,000 units in the same time frame.

As 220,000 units of the PS3 were made available for the launch in the UK, some people have been lucky enough to simply walk into a store and buy one off the shelf. Not as lucky of course as the first 125 people in the queue at the official launch store, Virgin Megastore on Oxfords Street. Those lucky bleeders were also handed a 46″ High Definition Sony Bravia TV worth £2000

New PSP on the Horizon

In keeping with the Sony tradition of making things smaller, and lighter, as time goes by, as we have seen previously with the PSOne and PS2, it seems that there is a smaller and lighter version of the Sony PSP on the way.

At the recent launch of Sony’s initiative, the PSP in Education, in front of an invited audience of press, teachers and education specialists, Sony Entertainment UK’s managing director Ray Maguire was asked about any future redesigns of the PSP. Maguire confirmed that a smaller, lighter model will be introduced in the future, although he did state that any changes will not affect the PSP’s screen which is seen as one of its major plus points and is definitely fixed.

It is unclear when the new PSP will be launched or whether there will be any other changes, such as the rumoured 8Gb of on board flash memory, but several games developers have apparently been given the nod to have titles ready to launch by the end of the year.

Tag Heuer Specialist Golf Watch

Tag Heuer Specialist Golf Watch

Oooh baby, this is one gorgeous lookin’ watch. From one of the most well known and respected watch makers on the planet, this new slimline specialist golf watch from Tag Heuer is the first watch in the World to be specially designed with the golfer in mind.

Due to its design and construction this watch will never impede a golfer during his swing and features a few really neat ideas such as a strap that automatically adjusts to a comfortable fit and an ergonomic clasp which is part of the watch casing itself. The Tag Heuer specialist golf watch being Tag’s slimmest watch also only weighs 55 grams and has had the crown moved from the traditional 3 o’clock position to the 9 o’clock position so you will never feel it against your wrist during your swing. And how do Tag Heuer know what a golfer wants from a professional watch? Simple. Tiger Woods designed and wears it.

Alpine Blackbird Satnav

Alpine Blackbird Satnav

Alpine have released their first self contained SatNav unit. It’s called the Blackbird (we like that name), and they describe it as a high end satnav unit. It is totally self contained so it can be moved easily from car to car and can also be used on foot.

It comes complete with a subscription-free RDS-TMC service which means you can be notified of changes to road conditions and road incidents etc.

The Blackbird has a 4Gb hard disk drive which comes pre-loaded with maps for Europe which look crystal clear thanks to Alpine’s high quality 3.6 inch touch sensitive display. The screen also has anti-glare and automatic brightness facility so that you should still be able to see the picture in bright light.

The Alpine Blackbird Satnav unit will set you back about £400 but we think it’s a quality product well worth the extra dosh.

Navman N40i

Navman N60i

Navman has gone and equipped it’s N series of satellite navigation devices with digital cameras, and in the process reckon they have revolutionised the market.

The normality which is that of programming a route from point a to point b is as easy to work out and execute as it is on any other decent satnav device, and it’s quite speedy too. The difference is with this little baby is that if you are in a location that you think you might visit again one day, take a picture of it. When you refer to it later, the N40i remembers where it was and plots you a route. Nice.

Only one small drawback with this device is the lack of a pedestrian mode, which means that when you are using the device on foot, you might end up taking a detour to avoid the one way system. We don’t think that’s amjor problem though, as overall this is a nice little piece of kit.

Pick a Navman N40i up now from Amazon for only £219.99, with free delivery.

Creative Zen Vision W

Creative Zen Vision W

This is a 30Gb multimedia wonder machine. Not only will you marvel at the stunning picture quality of the 16:9 ratio 4.3 inch widescreen display, but the sound quality is awesome too.

As if that wasn’t enough, it is quite capable of playing your favourite MP3 tunes, store all your favourite pictures and it even has built in radio. You can use it as a voice recorder and it has a personal organiser built in as well.

Quite simply, if you’re after entertainment on the move, then the Creative Zen Vision W is the baby you want. And, as it is only £229 at Advanced MP3 Players, your wallet won’t groan too loudly either.

Philips GoGear SA9200 MP3 Player

Philips GoGear SA9200 MP3 Player

As soon as you get your hands on this sexy little MP3 player from Philips, you know it’s a quality product, the thing is just dripping wet with style. It’s not bad in the sound department either. It comes complete with a set of headphones that you aren’t likely to throw straight in the bin when you get home. The blue lit controls on the shiny black background only spring into life when needed and they are very intuitive to make navigation a doddle. With 14 hours of battery life as well, why bother looking any further.
